About the Home Rule Music Festival
The Home Rule Music Festival is a free, community-centered celebration of Washington, D.C.’s rich musical history, cultural legacy, and creative future. Visual Inspiration
On the left are the client’s inspiration images which successfully displays lots of information using the hierarchy design principle. Based on the client’s inspiration images and the cosmic theme of the Home Rule Music Festival, I was inspired by 70s sci-fi art. This art style often depicts surrealistic visuals of the Earth, stars, moons, and galaxies. I was also inspired by retro textures and typography such as in the Sun Cycle poser. Typography
For the primary type I chose Strenuous designed by Ray Larabie from Typodermic because it is rounded with a futuristic feel to it. The light, book, regular, and bold weights of this font will be used for large display text and paragraph headings.For the secondary type I chose Mozilla Headline by Google. This angular serif font compliments the roundness of Strenuous and is easy to read. This font should only be used for paragraphs.
Color Scheme
I based the colors on things found in nature and outer space. I chose Roasted Coffee and Moon as they are warmer than the traditional Black (#000000) and White (#FFFFFF). The two colors complement the Dust, Red Clay, and Ocean Blue. Forrest Green, Sky Blue, and Banana Yellow serve as the secondary colors for this campaign and are shown in the hand-drawn illustration.Hand-Drawn Illustration
