Initial Typography and Layout Sketches

Project Description

“Wreck the Runway” is an event targeting young professionals aged 25-45 who care about sustainability, vintage fashion, and upcycling. This project– including social graphics and Instagram/Facebook ads – will serve as promotional content for the museum’s after-hours event, “Wreck the Runway.”

First Draft of Visual Language

To align with the museum’s branding guidelines, I chose Quarto as the primary font and Avenir Next as the secondary font. Because this was a special event, the museum’s brand specifications allowed for one additional color other than their standard Indigo, White, and Black.

In this draft, I decided to display the event title in a patchwork style. The client asked that I revisit the typography of “Wreck the Runway” because “Wreck” and “the Runway” felt disjointed in this iteration. The client also asked that I use a deeper orange and sharper angles to create a bolder look.

Type Treatment

When I revisited the typography, I used the italic version of Quarto because it looked special and exciting. Because the client was aiming for a “grunge” aesthetic, I added scratches and layers to the text to create a distressed look.

Final Graphics

The final graphics included Instagram/Facebook feed ads, story graphics, and story ads. While each graphic had slightly different size specifications, I designed each of them with the same sharp angles, bold color contrast, and aligned branding elements.
